Rare Earth Element analyses with the IMS 7f-GEO
The IMS 7f-GEO combination of high density O- primary beam and high transmission mass spectrometer results in precise measurement capabilities for trace elements such as Rare Earth Elements which can be analyzed at the ppm concentration level.
REE ratio measurements on NBS 610
Analyses were performed using O2- primary ions with 23keV impact energy and by applying the energy filtering technique.
The analysis spot size was adjusted to 20µm.
The experimental errors are in the sub-percent level and are determined by statistics.
REE in Garnet grains
Analyses were performed using a 20nA O- primary beam (spot size 20µm) and the energy filtering technique. These results correspond to a mapping of REE concentration in a Garnet grain. One spot (over a total of 9) shows a significant enrichment for light REE compared the other areas.
